Frequently Asked Questions

Let's explore some of the most common questions about laser engraving.

• What is Laser Engraving?

Laser engraving is a method where a laser beam burns or marks a design onto various materials. This could be done on many different types of organic and inorganic surfaces. The laser acts like a super-fine pencil, and it can create very detailed designs.

• How Does Laser Engraving Work?

A computer and software control the laser beam. Once a design has been created or uploaded in the software, the computer tells the laser where to move and when to fire its beam. The laser beam changes the material's surface by burning it, melting it, vaporizing it slowly, or altering the surface material, leaving a permanent mark.

• What Can You Make with a Laser Engraver?

A laser engraver can make many personalized items, such as engraved gifts, signs, art pieces, awards, glassware, promotional items, and so much more. You can even make parts for things like models or prototypes. The possibilities are endless!

• Is Laser Engraving Safe?

Yes, it's safe. We use closed engraving systems, which means your eyes are protected by a tinted window while the engraving process takes place.

• How Long Does Laser Engraving Take?

The time it takes depends on the design's complexity and size. Small and simple designs can take just a few seconds, while more detailed and larger designs take longer, sometimes several hours.

• Do I Need to Make an Appointment for one-off Personalized Items?

Yes! We work by appointment only. That appointment time is dedicated to you, learning about your project, having you select the font you like best, exactly where to place the engraving, and you get to watch the laser in action. There is no need to make a return visit as your item is completed by the end of your appointment. You can also meet virtually with us via a conference call, or video chat.

• Do You Handle Commercial/Industrial Work?

Yes, we do!

• Can You Ship Items?

Yes! We ship to the lower 48 continental United States via UPS or USPS.

• Is Laser Engraving Expensive?

Costs vary. Small projects like wine glasses, watch engravings, and promotional items are very affordable.

• Can You Use Color in Laser Engraving?

Laser engraving itself doesn't add color. It only changes the surface of the material or burns down into it. However, you can paint or use other techniques to add color after you pick up your item.

• How Precise is Laser Engraving?

Very precise! Laser engravers can create small, detailed designs that are hard to do by hand. This precision makes them great for intricate designs. We can do micro engravings (you need to use a magnifying glass to read) all the way up to 48" engravings.
